1950: The Golden Age of Twisted History

" ...What was it like being an American in 1950?

The cost of living was significantly lower, with a new car averaging around $1,500, a house costing about $15,000, and everyday items like a gallon of gas at $0.27, a loaf of bread at $0.14, and a movie ticket for 50–75 cents.

It was a very early stage of TV, so shows like, You Bet Your Life, or The Lone Ranger were popular, and Disney’s Cinderella was hot at the box office.

Rock and roll wasn't a thing yet. Elvis was only 15-years-old in 1950, so it was the age of Bing Crosby and Nat King Cole.

Your house may contain the recently invented automatic washing machine, and your pantry or fridge may have had brand-new products like Minute Rice, or processed sliced cheese from Kraft.

And ...Harry Truman, (who we almost NEVER talk about!) - Harry Truman was the president in his second term. Truman is consistently ranked among the great presidents, often placing in the top six to ten in scholarly surveys. If you’re a student, you should know about the Marshall Plan and the Truman Doctrine, and the whole “The Buck Stops Here” motto.
