The Meat Sweats BBQ Pop-Up Last Weekend Proved That Philly Is Officially A Barbecue City
This past weekend we had our 2nd ever Meat Sweats BBQ pop-up event. Last year's event was really special since it was the first one we ever did, but this year was insane. I had my guy Ruben of Bark Barbecue in Queens come down to Philly, we posted up outside of Urban Saloon in Fairmount, and before we had a chance to even get started there was already a line all the way down the block.
Say what you want about Philly, but you can't say that the city doesn't show up when there is BBQ involved. We probably had somewhere around 250-300 people come through in just a few hours so I think it's safe to officially declare Philly as a BBQ city. It's not Austin or Memphis or Kansas City just yet, but the foundation is there.
So this video is just a little behind-the-scenes look at the days and hours leading up to the pop-up. I mention in the video that we were way too busy during the actual event to film much of anything, but fortunately there were great people there like Mike (@pancakes.and.protein.shakes) to help document the day for us.
I mean c'mon…you saw that platter at the end. The fellas had themselves a day.
And before I wrap up here, just a few quick thank you's are in order. Thanks to Ruben for coming back down to Philly for the event. He's currently killing it in NYC so if you're in that area, make sure you go check him out at Smorgasburg.
Also a big thanks to Urban Saloon for letting us grace their sidewalk again with our meat. And a big thanks to my wife who crushes it on the sides since she still won't give me her baked beans recipe. And most importantly, thanks to everybody who showed up on Saturday to make it an unreal experience.
Hope to see even more of you there next time.
