Tommy's Thursday Thoughts: Vol. 52 - The Myth Of Line Gaps

-When I’m at a fast food place or coffee shop, and I see the workers laughing together behind-the-counter, I like to also have a smile on my face when I get up there to order. I don’t want to be stone faced and be a vibe killer, but I also don’t want to laugh too much since I’m not in on it. It’s the perfect amount of smile that says “Yeah I’m a fun guy” but also “I’d really like my order taken.”

-I find the term “on demand” to be a little too strong. I’m never demanding to watch the latest episode of Impractical Jokers. That’s way too aggressive. I think “on request” would be a more fitting term.

-I spend a lot of time thinking about the concept of line gaps. Whenever someone doesn’t move up when waiting on line, people get annoyed at the gap that forms and want the person to move up. But does it really matter? It’s not making the wait any longer, it’s not adding to the line, and the person will inevitably move up. So the next time you spot a line gap, don’t get annoyed and just realize it really doesn’t matter.

-Some of you may be annoyed that I said “waiting ON line” instead of “waiting IN line” but that’s just how I say it so deal with it.

-I’m always surprised more packages don’t get stolen at apartment buildings with no doormen. They just get left out in the hallway, and you really have to put a lot of faith in the human race.

-Whenever I drop off my laundry at my local wash and fold, the lady behind the counter remembers me by the last four digits on my phone number as opposed to my name. I find this incredible impressive. You have to think a four-digit number combination is much harder to remember than just “Tom.” I don’t want to give her too much credit, but I think she might be the smartest woman in the world.

-Whenever I tell someone that I had a dream about them, I feel the need to clarify that it was NOT sexual. I just feel like telling someone you dreamed about them can make them feel weird. But maybe I just make it even weirder by bringing up the word “sexual.”

-Sometimes I wonder what it would be like if the universe never existed. What would there be? Just darkness? But even darkness is something. Even nothing is something. What’s more nothing than nothing? But even that would be something. Pretty trippy to think about.

-Why do we call it a piggyback ride? Have you ever seen someone riding a pig? No. It should be called a horseyback ride or something.

Thank you for your time.
