Trent Frederic and Jack McBain Treated Us To One Of The Best Hockey Fights We'll See All Year
Hell yeah, boys. Now that's what I call a hockey fight.
I know that UFC was in Edmonton last night. But it turns out, the biggest fight of the night was Edmonton in Utah. Trent Frederic vs Jack McBain. The Edmonton Oilers signed Trent Frederic to an 8-year, $30.8M contract a couple summers ago. And this is exactly why. He had a couple of seasons in Boston where it looked like maybe he could be a power forward. A couple 17-18 goal seasons. But at the end of the day, Trent Frederic is a big ol' boy from the midwest who was born to use his fists as weapons.
Jack McBain is another big fella who can chuck them. He's been with Utah/Arizona for a while now, and knows his role. If the Mammoth are down 3-0 in the 1st period, he knows he's not going to go out there and score 3 goals in the next 3 shifts. If there's one way he's going to impact the game, it's going to be with violence.
You've got two big boys who know their roles here. Jack McBain knows he needs to fight to inject a little juice into his teammates. Trent Frederic knows he needs to fight to make sure the Oilers don't let Utah pick up any momentum. And what we got treated to is a tier 1 tilt. Heavy bomb after heavy bomb. Not a ton of defense in that fight, just two fellas chucking away. The benches love it, the crowd loves it, that's what hockey is all about. Goddamn what a sport.
Oh and meanwhile, Connor McDavid had 2 goals and 3 assists in a 6-2 win for Edmonton. 23 points in 8 games. He's had at least a point in every game so far, and this was his 2nd 5-point game of the season already. Aliens are here.
