The Philadelphia Eagles Could Very Realistically Be Just 4 Quarters Away From Blowing The Whole Thing Up
Icon Sportswire. Getty Images. The thing we've learned about the Philadelphia Eagles throughout the years is that they are no afraid to just move on. They won their first Super Bowl in 2017/18, and the team was pretty much completely brand new by the time 2021 rolled around.
Winning a Super Bowl didn't guarantee that Doug Pederson had a job here for life. Leading the Eagles to a 1-seed and having an MVP caliber season before tearing his ACL didn't guarantee Carson Wentz would be the franchise quarterback forever. It's crazy to think back on that era of Eagles and realize how quickly it all went away. And that's because Howie Roseman knows you can't just sit around and waste time holding onto the past.
Which brings us to the last couple weeks of the 2026 Eagles season. The Eagles are now 2-2 after losing their last 2 games. Sure, they were 2-2 through the first 4 weeks of the 2024 season, and that ended with a Super Bowl. But it just feels different this time.
Saquon is hurt. DeVonta Smith is hurt. Dallas Goedert could be coming back, but he's still hurt. Landon Dickerson is hurt. Lane Johnson just retired. Cam Jurgens was just traded to Baltimore.
The Eagles had the best offensive line in football in 2024. Now 3 out of those 5 starters are injured, retired, and traded. The Eagles are about to go into a game with Willie Lampkin as the starting left guard, and Will Shipley as RB1. I love both of those guys but I mean….come on. Zack Baun is questionable. Jihaad Campbell sucks this year, but he's also questionable. Meanwhile, the team is still carrying 4 quarterbacks for some godforsaken reason.
There are reports that Sean Mannion left Lincoln Financial Field within 10 minutes of the game ending last Sunday. There are reports that Nick Sirianni has strategically placed Sean Mannion up in the press box as to keep him away from being able to have conversations with Jalen on the sideline.
The whole thing just looks and feels like a mess. Maybe there's not as much internal drama and turmoil from a guy like AJ Brown stirring the pot. But it just doesn't feel like this team has a chance this year. And if this year is a wash, well then Howie Roseman isn't the type of GM who is just going to run it back and see if they have any better luck next year. Trading Cam Jurgens while the offensive line is already that decimated seems like he has one foot in the door of the Rebuild Factory already. 4 shitty quarters in London could get both feet through that door.
