Dylan Larkin Got Boo'd In His First Game Back In Detroit By A Bunch Of Dipshit Red Wings Fans, Immediately Scores A Goal And Puts All Their Emotions In A Blender
Gregory Shamus. Getty Images.Dylan Larkin has given the Detroit Red Wings everything he has for 10 years. A kid from Michigan who got a chance to be a 1st round draft pick for his hometown Red Wings. He's been a consistent 30+ goal scorer for the past 5 years in a row. He's a consistent 60-70 point guy. And I don't think there is a single person on planet Earth who would tell you that Dylan Larkin doesn't play the game the right way. Great two-way hockey, always working, always battling, just an incredible leader out there.
But the Red Wings never really gave Dylan Larkin everything they had. Larkin signed an 8-year deal in Detroit thinking that Steve Yzerman would build a great team around him. Turns out the Yzerplan was a crock of shit, he never actually had a plan, and the Red Wings have never gotten better during Larkin's 10+ years in Detroit. So he finally said enough is enough, and requested a trade.
Seems fair. He doesn't want to waste his entire career playing for an organization who isn't serious about winning. He's still a hometown kid. He still wore the "C" on his sweater. You'd think the fans in Detroit would do everything they could to convince him to stay as the Red Wings try to figure out how to actually construct a team.
You'd be wrong.
Guy gave you 11 years of his life. You know it couldn't have been an easy decision for him to request a trade. You know in your heart that he deserves a chance to go win a Cup, and that sure as shit isn't happening in Detroit anytime soon. He grew up in Michigan. He played college hockey at Michigan. He started his family in Michigan. He was the captain of the Red Wings. And the moment he says he wants a fresh start, everyone just turns their back on him?
Not so fast, dipshits.
Turns out Dylan Larkin is still the best player on the team. Even if you rip the "C" off of his sweater, he is still the best thing you have right now. So whether you want to hate him or not, Dylan Larkin is still going to make sure that you cheer for him.
Honestly, Dylan Larkin showed way more grace there than he should have. Because he really should have took off both gloves and immediately hit the fans with double middle fingers after that goal. Tell the whole building to suck him. He should have had a white sharpie tucked in his pants and drew a C back on his jersey after that goal. But I guess he has a little more class and composure to do any of that. Either way, great moment for Dylan Larkin. The guy deserves a fresh start, and hopefully a few more goals will force some teams on his trade list to quit lowballing their offers.
