A Group Of Eagles Tailgaters Are Now Forming An Association To Fight Against The Team's New Tailgating Rules, Which Sounds Directly Out Of "It's Always Sunny"
Yesterday I blogged about the new changes that are coming to the parking lots down at the Sports Complex when it comes to tailgating the Eagles games. These changes were inevitable, and the only reason they haven't happened sooner is because I'm sure the Eagles realize how crazy this city is about tailgating in the lots on Sunday mornings. But after years of these bigger tailgates getting greedier and greedier with the size of their productions, it had to happen.
I don't think these big tailgates realize how lucky they've been that the Eagles have essentially let them play around in their parking lots with zero rules for the past 2 decades. But there's an old saying in Tennessee--I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee--that says, "if you give 'em an inch, they'll take a mile". And that's exactly what these big tailgates have done. And now instead of understanding that they caused these changes to take place in the middle of the season, they are forming an "association" to fight against them.
"We're here to ask for a seat at the table" as if they are some underrepresented minority. Brother, you guys would ask for a seat at the table, and then take 7 more seats with you.
I don't know, man. Like I get it. Tailgating is awesome, and it's a huge part of the game day experience down at the Linc. I'm not anti-tailgating by any means. But I do think there needs to at least be some sort of structure to it. We can't have an RV pull into the parking lots, pay for 1 space, and then set up a whole goddamn complex around it taking up 10 spots. Parking is such a bitch down there because any row of spots could be completely taken up by folding tables and a goddamn DJ booth. It's a pain in the dick to get to the stadium via public transportation if you're coming from the suburbs, and it's pretty ridiculous to ask people to get down there by 6:45am if they want to find a parking spot for a 1pm kickoff.
Again, I'm not anti-tailgate. But it does seem like the "big tailgate" portion of the fanbase is putting themselves in front of the rest of the fanbase here. Everybody else shouldn't have to deal with a parking nightmare just because you're running an entire event out of a converted school bus. We have a team that looks like they're going to be so much fun to watch this year. The offense is exciting, the defense is due to start taking over games soon, and there doesn't seem to be any drama in the locker room now that AJ Brown is gone. And instead of just enjoying it, now we have a faction of the fanbase creating a coalition to essentially fight the team to give them total access to the parking lots without any rules whatsoever again. Seems like if you were truly an Eagles fan, you'd suck it up for a bit and just see how it goes. But maybe they are a bigger fan of the tailgates than they actually are of the team. Sure seems that way right now.
