Reunion Tour: The Eagles Are Getting The Band Back Together By Signing Zach Ertz After Dallas Goedert Will Miss A Few Weeks With A Sprained MCL
Mitchell Leff. Getty Images.So a little good news, a little bad news. Bad news is obviously the fact that Dallas Goedert is going to be missing some time with a sprained MCL. Even after a few weeks, that's going to be one of those injuries that is constantly nagging at Goedert for the rest of the season.
The good news is that there's a fella by the name of Zach Ertz still floating around out there. A guy who has the 2nd most receptions in Eagles history. Who set the franchise record for most receptions in a single season. And, oh yeah, also caught a game winning touchdown for the Eagles to secure their first ever Super Bowl.
It was definitely the right time to move on from Ertz when the Eagles did. He's a legend in this city, but they needed to clear the path for Dallas Goedert to be the top TE on the roster. He's 35-years-old, he's had some injury issues, and his numbers have definitely taken a big step back.
But the Eagles don't need Zach Ertz to come in here and be 2018 Zach Ertz again. Obviously Dallas Goedert is a huge weapon for Jalen Hurts in this offense, but he's proven through 2 weeks so far that he can spread the ball around. DeVonta Smith is always an option, Dontayvion Wicks has proven to be a big guy on 3rd down situations, and Darius Cooper can get open in the end zone. All the Eagles need out of Zach Ertz is to be a nice security blanket for whenever the team needs him. A guy who can make one or two big time grabs when the team desperately needs to keep a drive alive. He might not be the reason why the Eagles win any games the rest of the way, but he can certainly help make sure they don't lose when you need a catch on 3rd down to keep running the clock.
The fact of the matter is that the Eagles have never won a Super Bowl without either Zach Ertz or Dallas Goedert at tight end. And if Dallas Goedert is going to be missing some time with that MCL, you might as well get the band back together with Zach Ertz just in case.
