It's Monday In July And We Are Close To Football So Screw It - Football Highlights To Get You Through The Afternoon

I tweeted this last week and it dawned on me that most young folks probably have no idea who John Facenda was or his importance to the game of football. From there, I fell down a rabbit hole watching football highlights because it was a Friday in late July and I am now starting to itch for football. You see, unlike some, I enjoy the break we get from the Super Bowl until Labor Day. I am a firm believer in the old adage of "absence makes the heart grow fonder." As such, I don't like to jump the gun on the countdowns and football discussions too early in the summer. I enjoy golf, the Shore, and baseball so I have enough to keep my appetite satiated ahead of the Fall. 

That is until now. Now is when I start to get my hankering. It is not full blown starving just yet but it's close enough that I will dip my toe in just to feel something. 

That's where I found myself last Friday, enjoying the soothing sounds of Facenda's voice. It's a voice that transports me to a different time. Rewatching old NFL Films VHS tapes in my family room in my early years playing the game. Something about that voice narrating those scripts made the play on the field poetry in motion. I appreciate that the game continues to evolve and we argue about CFB or the NFL becoming something that we don't love like we used.  However, the fact remains that come Labor Day weekend, we will all be in front of our TVs as we kickoff another glorious football season. In a world full of turmoil, hate, and uncertainty, football is always there for us. Comforting us. Holding us. Letting us know it will all be okay.
