You watch him move around on the basketball court, and his body moves in a language that you can barely comprehend. The quickness, the fluidity, that bounce in his step that makes it seem like he was the Energizer bunny in a previous life. Tyrese Maxey can do a ton of things that you cannot.
However...using a can opener is not one of those things.
I've always found that one of the hardest things to do is ask for help. There's that part of your brain that makes you want to figure shit out on your own. But it's ego and stubbornness that drives you to suffer through failed attempt after failed attempt. So first and foremost, let's just give Tyrese Maxey the credit he deserves for asking for help. It's not an easy thing to do.
And speaking of not easy--let's just talk about the can opener for a moment here. It might be the least intuitive kitchen gadget ever created. When you put a can opener in your hand for the first time, it feels like you're holding this ancient relic from centuries ago. There has never been a day in your life when the can opener didn't exist, so you feel like a fool if you don't know how to use one. But there are like 4 or 5 different ways that seem like it should work. To be perfectly honest, to this day I still don't know if I'm using a can opener the way it was actually intended to be used. I'm able to open the can every time, but it still feels like the guy who invented the can opener would want to punch me in the face if he saw how I was using it.
All of this is to say that Tyrese Maxey shouldn't feel any shame in not knowing how to use a can opener. It's a helpful kitchen gadget, for sure, but my goodness is it a mess to figure out. But now he knows. And once you learn how to use a can opener, you feel like you can learn to do anything. So the rest of the league better take notice and watch out. This is going to be the first NBA season in history when Tyrese Maxey knows how to use a can opener. Who knows what he's capable of doing now.
