If Anybody Has A Spare $500,000 To Lend, I'd Like To Bid On The Skateboard Tony Hawk Landed His First 900 That Is Now Up For Auction

There are certain artifacts that possess a massive level of historical significance. Artifacts that tell the story of time here on Earth, and help us understand how we got to where we are today. Artifacts like the Rosetta Stone, or the Dead Sea Scrolls, the Terracotta Army, or King Tut's Mask. These artifacts have all played a crucial role in changing the history of the world.

And then there's the skateboard on which Tony Hawk landed the first ever 900 in competition with at the 1999 X Games.

This was the moment that changed everything. The moment when we learned that men could actually fly. The moment that led to the creation of the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater franchise.

Without Tony Hawk landing the first ever 900, I fully believe that society would be in ruins right now. We would have crumbled as a civilization. But he changed the course of history with that trick, and now the board he landed it with is up for grabs.

Source -- In a surprise appearance that will be etched in the memories of those present, skateboarding icon Tony Hawk graced the Julien's Auctions exhibition during an interactive moment with his most tangible pieces of sports history: the very equipment he used to land the revolutionary "900" trick in 1999.

In partnership with Hawk himself, Julien's is now offering collectors and fans an unprecedented opportunity to own a piece of this legacy. "The 900 Collection" is a deeply personal curation of items that narrate the story of modern skateboarding. The live auction is poised to be a landmark event, with the "900" skateboard estimated to fetch between $500,000 and $700,000.

They say that money can't buy happiness. But you want to know what money can buy? It can buy you the skateboard that Tony Hawk landed the first ever 900 on, and that sure seems like it would make anybody happy as shit to have in their possession.

Obviously you figure most people who could afford to win that auction would likely keep the board on display in the case for the rest of time. But here's a situation that I don't think anybody has considered yet so far--think about all the movies we've seen where characters absorb some sort of special power once they come into possession of an item. In "Like Mike", Lil' Bow Wow became the best basketball player ever after getting an old pair of Michael Jordan's shoes. In "The Mask", Jim Carrey basically turned into a god who could shapeshift and escape death after putting the mask on.

Now imagine you win this auction and now own this board. What if you begin to ride it, and all of a sudden you become the greatest skateboarder to ever exist? You don't think that would be worth $500-700K? That board would pay for itself in less than a year. Just enter every tournament, win all the prize money, get a massive endorsement, and now you're in the black. The only downside is you'd have to inevitably deal with a group of bad guys who try to steal the board from you to take the powers for themselves. But you'd be so incredible at skateboarding that you could easily evade them with a kick ass chase scene.

You know what? Now that I think about it, we need to make this movie happen. "Bird Man", coming to theaters near you in summer 2027.

Sidenote: The remastered version of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4 just recently came out. I haven't had a chance to play it yet. Not to brag but I had twin boys last week, so I've been pretty busy. But if the game is anything like the remastered version of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2, it'll bring you right back to playing in your living room in 2002.
