Full Blown Donnybrook Breaks Out At A Youth Ball Hockey Game, Resulting In 3 Adults Getting Arrested And Charged
So here we see the biggest flaw with ball hockey on display; when a fight breaks out on the court, the coaches and parents are easily able to jump right out there and start chucking some knucks of their own.
If these kids all played ice hockey like regular people, the parents wouldn't be able to jump out there. Don't get me wrong--there are absolutely fights that break out in the stands amongst parents at youth ice hockey games. But they're not jumping out onto the ice in their sneakers and throwing down in the middle of all the chaos. But with ball hockey, these coaches and parents can get right out there. You have kids fighting in the first place, then you have parents and coaches fighting because the kids are fighting, and then you have even more kids start to fight because the parents and coaches are fighting. It's the perfect recipe for a shit storm.
This went down in New Jersey, so I highly doubt it's the first time any of these adults have ever been arrested for disorderly conduct. It's not like we have any perfectly clean records getting ruined here or anything. But it's a great reminder that parents shouldn't be allowed at youth sporting events anymore. It's a subject I've written about pretty frequently, and every time my belief grows stronger that parents shouldn't be allowed at the venue of youth sporting events. Whether it's getting into fights or verbally assaulting refs to the point where youth refs might become extinct within the next decade, parents are constantly ruining youth sporting events. Just send them to a bar down the street until the game is over, and we won't have to deal with anything like this happening again.
Sidenote: It's only a matter of time before one of these kids is out there destroying the Big Deal Selects.
