Jalen Chatfield Takes Over The #1 Spot As Biggest Idiot In The NHL After This Ridiculous UFC-Style Takedown
And that, my friends, is what we would call a gigantic piece of shit.
Listen. Hockey is a fast and physical sport. Violence plays a huge role in the game, and that's part of what makes it so great. These guys are flying around on a sheet of ice at 20+ mph wearing boots that have knives attached to the bottom of them, and they are trying to hit each other as hard as possible. That shit rules so hard, no doubt about it.
But what makes hockey so special is that there's a level of decorum to the violence. There's an understanding amongst players that while the goal of the game is to inflict pain, nobody is going to go above and beyond in an attempt to actually injure someone. Injuries are going to happen, but just because that's the game.
Not because some dipshit who doesn't know how to actually fight decides to break out a UFC takedown and rip a guy down to the ice head first when his helmet is already popped off. That's how somebody dies. That's how somebody's brain gets so scrambled that they're never able to play again.
I don't know where you draw the line. Because we've obviously seen moves like the Superman Punch make it's way over to hockey from the UFC, and that is undeniably awesome. Clearly you're trying to put your fist through your opponent's skull, but something about that seems a whole lot better than whipping a guy around and slamming him head first (the back of his head, mind you) to the ice. I guess that's it right there. You had to see it first to actually draw it, but Jalen Chatfield just drew the line and high jumped right over it. That's something the NHL needs to get out of the game right away.
