Nothing Seems Like It Should Be Illegal More Than NFL Teams Interviewing Coaches Who Are Still In The Playoffs

Sustained success is almost a curse in the NFL when there is so much turnover year to year. Every season you end up having a few guys who have massive years and effectively play themselves off of the roster with how much the value on their next contract goes up. Every season you end up losing a coordinator or two to head coaching jobs.

It is what it is. That's just the way she goes. Losing guys because of strong performances comes with the territory. It's just that if you're going to end up losing guys from your organization, you'd hope you at least get a chance to get everything out of them as you possibly can before they move on. But with the way NFL head coaching positions are filled, you get completely fucked if you make the playoffs.

The Eagles have a pretty big game coming up on Sunday. Not sure if you know this or not, but they're hosting the Rams in the NFC Divisional Round. Probably the type of week where you want everybody as locked in as possible. Players, coaches, concession stand workers. You want everybody to be singularly focused on this game, and to drown out any outside noise.

But for some godforsaken reason, the NFL forces teams in the playoffs to deal with coaches taking interviews with different teams to fill head coaching positions as the playoffs are still going on. This isn't Kellen Moore's fault. It's not like the Eagles are going to deny him the ability to interview for a head coaching position. That's a life-changing opportunity for him, and they're not going to take that away. It just doesn't make a lick of sense that the NFL would create a system that makes it all possible in the first place.

All you have to do is go back 2 years ago to right before the Eagles were playing in the 2022 Super Bowl. Instead of preparing for the Chiefs all week long ahead of the Super Bowl, Jonathan Gannon is already in Arizona interviewing for the head coaching job with the Cardinals. He was already gone before kickoff. Next thing you know, Mahomes comes out in the 2nd half and completely shreds the Eagles' defense to pieces. You don't think that Gannon would have had a few more answers for Kansas City if he didn't already have a job lined up for the next season?

Again, you're going to lose coordinators pretty frequently if your team is constantly winning football games. Nothing you can do about that. But the Dallas Cowboys shouldn't be able to fuck over the Eagles in the playoffs by taking their offensive coordinator away for a day to interview for a head coaching job they should have given him a few years ago anyway. It just seems like the league could easily make teams wait until after the Super Bowl to conduct any interviews.

Sidenote: this is Kellen Moore's chance to show his loyalty to the city of Philadelphia. Tell Jerry Jones to shove it directly up his old, wrinkled ass. The man already let you walk out of that building before. Now all of a sudden they want to give you an opportunity to interview for a head coaching job because you spent some time with the Eagles? That old senile bitch is obviously just going to be digging for information. Walk into his office, tell him to suck it, drop a massive deuce in the main bathroom, don't flush, and get right back to practice.
