The 10-3 Philadelphia Eagles Have Already Moved On From Defensive Coordinator Sean Desai, Replace Him With Matt Patricia

The Philadelphia Eagles got their dicks kicked in 2 weeks in a row. Fortunately, they started off the season 10-1 so they gave themselves a little wiggle room to work with. But the team gave up touchdowns on 6 straight drives to finish the San Francisco game, and got scored on by will against Dallas. The team is still in a good spot so it's not exactly time to panic, but it was infuriating just how nonchalant the team seemed to be about it.

You have Nick Sirianni saying he's not going to do anything different with Brian Johnson and the playcalling. You had Darius Slay out here retweeting his personal stats about targets and PBU's trying to say he had a good game against Dallas even though the team sucked a oil tanker worth of ass. Maybe it's not time to fully panic, but it sure as shit is time for the team to look in the mirror and make a few adjustments.

Turns out they did just that today by replacing Sean Desai as defensive coordinator with Matt Patricia.

Sean Desai was in his first year as the DC in Philly. And whether it's due to his own schematics or players just not performing, this defense has looked like total dog shit for most of the year. They don't get turnovers, they can't get off the field on 3rd down, they get eaten alive in the middle of the field, and they commit a ton of penalties. It could be Sean Desai, it could be the fact that the Eagles don't have any linebackers and James Bradberry is literally stealing from the organization, or it could be a combination of the two. Either way, the Eagles didn't fire Sean Desai, but they essentially told him to go fuck off for the rest of the season.

Now Matt Patrcia taking over doesn't exactly inspire a ton of confidence in some major turnaround. He's had moments as one of the better defensive minds in the game, and then he's had moments of being thought of as a total joke. So I'd at least give him a 50/50 chance of finally getting the best out of this defense. Which is probably more than you could say for Sean Desai at this moment. Regardless, it's just nice to see the team do anything at all to try to turn things around after these last two abysmal performances. Anything is better than nothing at this point.

Sidenote: Pretty suspicious that Darius Slay isn't playing this week to get his knee scoped on the same week that Matt Patricia takes over as DC. Pretty suspicious move by Darius indeed.
