Shane Steichen Is The First Casualty Of The Philadelphia Eagles Greatness, Will Be The Next Head Coach Of The Colts
History always has a knack of repeating itself throughout the course of time. Let's just turn back the clock 5 years ago for a moment here.
The Indianapolis Colts were searching for a new head coach after Chuck Pagano retired. Frank Reich was the Eagles OC at the time and just led the Eagles to winning their first Super Bowl in franchise history. If there's anybody who deserved the credit for Nick Foles' run throughout those playoffs, it was Frank Reich. So a week after the Super Bowl, the Colts come out and steal Frank Reich out of Philly.
5 years later the Colts are looking for a new head coach again. 5 years later the Eagles are in the Super Bowl again. History repeats itself.
We knew it was only a matter of time before someone came around and ripped Shane Steichen out of Philadelphia. The Eagles have put together one of the most lethal offenses in football. They can murder you through the air, as demonstrated in that Tennessee game. They can murder you on the ground, as demonstrated in that Green Bay game. They can do a little combination of both, as demonstrated by basically every game this season. The fact of the matter is that opposing defenses never know which way they are about to get killed by the Eagles, and that's all orchestrated by Shane Steichen.
Obviously it sucks to lose him after today. Steichen was the first and only offensive coordinator who Jalen Hurts has gotten to work with for more than just one year for pretty much his entire football playing career. Clearly that's going to be a massive gap to fill. But luckily the Eagles already have their guy in the waiting.
By the way, there's also a good chance that this is the last time we see Jonathan Gannon coaching for the Eagles as well.
Being great doesn't come free. And apparently the price you have to pay is losing both of your coordinators to head coaching jobs after the season wraps up. These are only the first couple branches of the Nick Sirianni coaching tree. Get used to it.
Go Birds.
