All Pro Punter Brett Kern Still Has Nightmares About Devin Hester And Bernard Pollard

Welcome to the 3 Minute Tryst, a 3-minute conversation series exploring sports, music, business and culture in a fun, playful and light atmosphere. Check out the last episode of 3MT with Jake Paul talking about his big fight with Nate Robinson on the undercard of Tyson-Jones Jr. PPV on November 28.

This week I sat down with All Pro punter Brett Kern. You might remember him for pretty much single handedly beating the Patriots on a massive bomb of a punt at the end of their playoff game early this year, a punt that put Brady in Tampa and Belichick on his way to a losing season for the first time in Barstool history:

Brett has had quite a journey in the NFL. We talked about him having been cut by a 6-0 Bronco team only to be picked up by the 0-6 Titans, where he proceeded to go 8-2 while his old Denver team went 2-8. He didn’t gloat but obviously, he said it felt great and gave a shout out to Craig Hentrich, the 17-year pro who mentored him in Tennessee that first year. Ever since he’s been a staple for the Titans special teams and one of the best punters in the NFL. Brett spoke about the scariest punt returner he ever faced and what NFL player he would not want to line up across from. He also revealed his favorite punter (not named Pat McAfee), who he would start-bench-cut among Toledo football, Syracuse basketball, and Buffalo hockey, and why Bernard Pollard gave him nightmares on the opponent’s punt block team when he first got to the NFL.

It was a great interview but sadly, Brett’s been put on the IR as the Titans continue being snakebitten by injuries. Let’s all hope for a quick return for this Pro Bowl punter and all-around good guy.
