It's The End of Spring Training So That Means It's Time For Greg Bird To Hurt His Foot

Well it was fun while it lasted thinking Greg Bird could get through this year with a clean bill of health. It’s unbelievable how fragile this man’s foot is. Now we don’t know the severity, but when the same foot that’s been plaguing you your entire life is sore that’s certainly not good news. The moment the news came out today that he was scratched Yankees universe immediately knew what it was. Last year was a disaster trying to get any production out of first base. Whether it was the horrible Chris Carter or Chase Headley or anyone else they tried to plug and play there (Bryan Mitchell) it just never worked out.

When Bird returned at the end of the year for the final 29 games he hit eight homers and 25 RBIs with an OPS just under .900. He hit probably the biggest home run of the entire postseason last year when he hit this missile off of Andrew Miller in Game 3 with the Yankees just innings from elimination.

He’s so goddamn important to this lineup. Slotting him in as a lefty somewhere in between Judge, Stanton, and Gary was going to give opposing pitchers fits. If he plays anywhere close to 150 games he hits 30+ homers in Yankee Stadium no doubt about it. Let’s just pray the foot is fine somehow and this doesn’t lead down a path we all have in our minds right now. Certainly not the news you want to hear just five days away from opening day in Toronto. We now all have a reason to drink today.

Also maybe it wasn’t the best idea to have Greg Bird dance for a video? Just saying…
