Rory McIlroy Toasts To Arnie And The Media With Arnie's Favorite Booze To Cap Off An Interesting Week

Interesting week for Rory. On course he went from “what the hell’s wrong with Rory” after results of CUT, T20, T59, CUT in 4 starts this year to flipping a switch, putting lights out, and finishing off the Arnold Palmer Invitational with a BLAZING hot streak Sunday evening. Analysts predicted around 14-under would win it — Rory got it to 18 and did it in style.

Look at these stats.

It seems puzzling that one can go from missing cuts to DOMINATING in every single aspect of the game: the driver, the irons, the scrambling, and the putter. Yet then you remember that guys like us will shoot under our handicap one day, then 15 shots above it the next. “Ha, that’s golf!” we’ll say.

Yet even with that performance, Rory perhaps made more headlines with this:

An asinine take for an Irishman, on St. Patrick’s Day, to suggest the TOUR should limit alcohol sales to reign in rowdy fans. Rory is a very candid dude who always speaks his mind. We love him for that. Now, this of course comes on the heals of JT having a fan kicked out for rooting for his his ball to go into a bunker; people are connecting the two and piling on about golfers being soft.

Apples to oranges in my opinion — Rory had a fan heckling on a personal level, yelling out his wife’s name. Should’ve had a marshal or his caddie boot the guy right away, which I said on radio this morning.

But limiting alcohol sales? HA! Even if you’re someone who’s never had a drop of alcohol in your life you understand this won’t fly. Not even close. Let’s take gambling out of the Kentucky Derby too while we’re at it.

Bad suggestion, good win, great toast to The King. All just two weeks out from Masters week. We really are getting the golf season we’ve long been promised.
