Weightlifter's Face Explodes With Blood During Deadlift, Still Loses To The Mountain

NY Post- Russian strongman Mikhail Shivlyakov’s nose erupted as he attempted to lift an incredible 939 pounds during the 2018 Arnold Sports Festival this weekend.

The 37-year-old Russian — wearing a beret, a tip to his time in the Navy as a Marine sailor — aimed to complete a deadlift of nearly half a ton.

However, the strain of it all became too much, as midway through the immense display of strength, Shivlyakov’s nose began to pour with blood.

With the blood cascading down his face, the brave Russian managed to soldier on and incredibly completed the lift. Shivlyakov trudged away triumphantly, mopping the blood from his face with a towel. However, the stunning lift did not win the event.

Hafthor Bjornsson, known by many as “The Mountain” on hit TV show “Game Of Thrones,” completed a world-record deadlift of 1,040 pounds.

Well that was disgusting. Absolutely disgusting. It looked like he had a strawberry sauce squirt pump in his nose, like the kind you find at build-your-own sundae joints. I guess that’s what happens when you try to deadlift so many plates that the bar bends like a noodle. Credit to him for pushing past what can only be an enormous amount of brain damage and completing the lift. This is why I’m worried about the Russians.

Still, after all that, he lost to–you guessed it–the Mountain. Dude cannot be beaten. He set the world record for deadlifting too at 1,040 pounds.

That’s too much weight! The human body isn’t meant to lift that much. I don’t care how many Martell skulls you pulverize with your fingers; it shouldn’t be that easy. He’s lifting 100 pounds more than the Russian guy and he gets it up like it’s nothing. How demoralizing is that? The poor Russian dude is plugging his nostrils with tampons while the Mountain is rolling the bar up his thighs to prevent lactic acid buildup.

One of my favorite scenes from the entire series:
