Let's Take A Moment To Appreciate 2 Chainz's Verse On 'Mercy'
So this morning I was listening to a playlist when the always awesome “Mercy” with Kanye West, Big Sean, Pusha T and 2 Chainz came on. The 2012 song has some heavy hitters on it lyrically and Big Sean. Pusha T was thriving as a solo act and was the G.O.O.D Music golden child, Kanye does cool Kanye things on the song and Big Sean is definitely a rapper.
Yet amongst all of those guys no one had a better verse than 2 Chainz. It was the re-emergence of 2 Chainz and he CRUSHED it. It’s a no doubt round-tripper of a verse. A lot of it’s awesomeness stems from the moment he comes onto the song.
I tweeted this
Nothing but facts in that tweet. 2 Chainz gets shot out of a cannon on his verse. The best imagery I could come up with was him ripping a baton out of Kanye’s hand and sprinting away at a high rate of speed. Or you know at the beginning of a Mario Kart race when you press the gas right at the perfect moment and get an initial boost? That’s how 2 Chainz’s verse starts on Mercy. It’s one of the more incredible entrances on a song ever.
And guess what? Other people love the verse just as much as I do
So good. But back to 2 Chainz’s entrance, my peeps on Twitter came to my aid and were able to capture the imagery better than I ever could
This was the best one
That right there is the perfect encapsulation of what 2 Chainz does. Ultimate Warrior just hauling ass towards the ring. I had tears of laughter streaming down my face from laughing so hard at that tweet. It’s almost too perfect. Kanye winds down his verse and 2 Chainz is already at a full sprint when he starts. So much so that another Twitter peep pointed this out
Go back and listen to the song and you’ll hear it very clearly. Kanye hasn’t wrapped up his verse before 2 Chainz gets going. Tity Boi is so ready to rip that he gets antsy and starts screaming his own name. Not to mention Chainz isn’t stepping on the verse of some nobody or Big Sean. He’s stepping on the verse of KANYE WEST. It’s Kanye’s song off a G.O.O.D. Music album and 2 Chainz is like, “Yo playboy get the fuck out the way so I can commit homicide on this track.” It’s amazing.

Furthermore, in the music video 2 Chainz is stalking Kanye like a lion stalks a gazelle before it’s his turn. He’s ready to go
then BLAM! He’s off an running. Spitting rounds like a gun range. Beating it up like Rampage. A classic verse is born and 2 Chainz is back on the scene. Few things will ever match the level of hyped I get when he starts his verse. An instant classic.
