Boogie Cousins To Miss Rest Of The Season With An Achilles Tear

Well this SUCKS. Boogie Cousins is one of the best players to watch in the League for a variety of reasons: mainly because he’s a beast but also mainly because he’s one of the more likely players to swing on someone at the drop of a hat. Boogie’s the man, and after years of being stuck on shitty Kings team after shitty Kings team, he was finally contributing for a playoff team vying for the 5-seed. The Pelicans have only lost three games since the calendar turned over to 2018, and they’ve beaten two elite teams in Boston and Houston. “But they needed overtime to beat Boston and only beat Houston by two at home!” That’s all well and good, but most bad teams are bad specifically because they turn to shit in close games. Last year those are absolutely games the ‘Cans lose.

Just four days ago Boogie put up the tenth (10th) ever 40-point triple double. He registered yet another triple double tonight with a light 15/13/11 to go along with three steals against the Houston Rockets. The fact that the knock on this guy has been his hustle and lack of care yet he got hurt chasing down an offensive rebound in a close game on national tv against the second best team in the League in order to help his team secure a win. The fact that he was shooting a free throw because he got fouled after ripping down an offensive rebound in the final minute of the game that he went back up with and scored for an and-1 to score essentially the two points that were needed to lock up the win for the ‘Cans. The fact that we don’t get to see bully plays like this until next season stinks and it stinks out loud.

He was averaging 25/13/5 with a block & a half and a steal & a half per night while shooting league average from three and a shade under 80% from the free throw line. That’s good for 7th in points, third in rebounding, 9th in blocks, 17th in steals, and has dished out the 18th most assists in the Association this year. Not that the Pelicans were ever going to win a title this year, I get that, it’s just not the point. Any time you lose one of the 10-15 best players in the League for any amount of time it sucks, regardless of team expectations. The All Star starter was having a monster year and now we’re down one of the most entertaining players in the League until next season.
