Twenty Years Ago Today, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin And "Iron" Mike Tyson Raised Hell In The Middle Of A WWF Ring

The year was 1998. Professional wrestling was at it’s peak, selling out packed arenas week-after-week, sending ratings through the roof, and that was largely thanks to one man in-particular…”Stone Cold” Steve Austin. He was the every man; the blue collar redneck who was always down for a fight. He drank beer, he hated his boss, and he got a nation of wrestling fans to live vicariously through him. For most, he was the baddest man on the planet.

Another man held that title for many years before Austin, however, and his name was “Iron” Mike Tyson. At the time of this segment, he sat at 45-2-0 professionally in the squared circle as a heavyweight boxer, most recently coming off a bout where he was disqualified for biting off a chunk of Evander Holyfield’s ear. This was the off-the-chain, dangerous Mike Tyson who wasn’t just capable of knocking anyone in the world out with a right hook, but was capable of who knows what outside the ring. He was brought into a WWF ring to appear on Monday Night RAW, and there was of course one person in the locker room not fearful of Tyson. Not only someone who was not fearful, but someone who was looking to prove who the toughest sum’ bitch in Fresno, California was that night. Enter Stone Cold, and the rest is history.

Happy 20 years to one of the most iconic segments in the history of pro wrestling. Gimme a hell yeah if you miss the Texas Rattlesnake raising hell every Monday night.
