I Know This Report About Bill Belichick Potentially Wanting To Coach The Giants Is Probably Bullshit, Even Though I Wish It Was True

NYDN- Imagine hoodies with their sleeves cut off becoming a Fifth Avenue fashion statement. Bring Bill Back Home. Can Bill Belichick, yes Bill Belichick, be the next coach of the Giants?

“I’m sure Bill knows this is his last chance to be the Giants coach,” a source close to Belichick said Friday. “Bill sees an opening – an opening to get to the Giants.” The source said he’s not certain if the reported friction and tension in New England will prompt Belichick to force his way out, but if he does, he said he is certain, “The Giants are the only place he wants to be.”

John Mara, Steve Tisch and Dave Gettleman must work their contacts to find out if Belichick wants the Giants head coaching job after explosive details emerged Friday in an ESPN story of a fracture in the relationship between Belichick on one side and Tom Brady and Robert Kraft on the other. The source has not spoken to Belichick since the story came out, but is very familiar with The Hoodie’s desire to coach the Giants.

“He wants to be the Giants coach. I know that for a fact,” the source said. “That would be pretty cool. My guess is if he wants out, the Giants already know. He would be great with Gettleman. Bill is a football guy. Gettleman is a football guy.”

Everything in this article seems to be creating dots and then connecting them. Does Bill Belichick love the Giants franchise? I think so. If he ever left New England, would he want to go to an organization with ownership he knew that has a defense and a playoff-tested quarterback? Of course. And can you imagine how many times Belichick could trade down from the number 2 overall pick? He could own Rounds 4-7 by the time all is said and done.

But I just have a hard time believing that a 65 year old coach is going to want to go to a new team, that just hired a new GM by the way, and leave everything he has built over the last 18 years because of a week article about his relationship with a nutritionist and who did/didn’t get Patriot of the Week this season.

To be honest, I didn’t even know if this story was blogworthy because the source just seemed so flimsy. I have been joking about Belichick finishing his career with the Giants for years. The fact the Giants have an opening is a funny coincidence. But after today’s ESPN piece, people seem to actually think it could happen. I think it’s all a product of this crazy ass media age we live in. Plus if Jon Gruden is getting paid 100 million dollars, how much would the Giants have to pay Belichick if he ever came to New York by some miracle? 200 million dollars? 100 billion dollars? 100 kabillion Bitcoins? I honestly don’t know if the Maras and Tisches have enough money between the two of them to get the hoodie to the Meadowlands.

Then again, the Giants were interviewing coaches in Foxboro today……

And I can convince myself of BB becoming HC of the NYG whenever I watch this snippet.

(Just let me have this, guys. It was a really, really rough season. Papa Clem still talks in hushed tones about Belichick’s Super Bowl XXV defensive gameplan and my dad NEVER talked sports when I was young because he wasn’t even close to being a sports fan until I made him one later in life).

P.S. That old school red Giants jacket
