Harry Styles Stepped In Last Minute To Host James Corden And It Went Swimmingly

Last night James Corden’s wife unexpectedly went into labor so he called his best buddy, Harry Styles to guest host. They claim it was a last-minute arrangement and based on how padded the show was, I believe them. Most of the heavy lifting came during the guest segments, but even then, Owen Wilson and Jane Krakowski drove the conversation. Which makes you wonder, is it that difficult to host a late night show? Like, everyone is saying Harry killed it and he didn’t even do anything. He read off a teleprompter and people went nuts. Sure, it takes comedic timing, an incredible amount of charisma, and a boat load of confidence, but I don’t think it’s that hard. The host is just the messenger. Their job is to deliver material that the funny people (writers) come up with. Maybe that’s why hosts are notoriously hesitant when it comes to allowing guest hosts. Because they don’t want someone to come in and do better than them. Letterman was on the air for thirty-three years and only allowed a handful of people to take the chair. One of which was Jimmy Fallon, and we all know how that worked out.

I’m not trying to take away from what they do. I’m just pointing out the fact that anyone with a team of talented writers and producers can host a show. Even Grammy nominated superstars like Harry Styles.
