The Details on Matt Lauer are Coming Out and Yup, They Are Creepy AF

As the co-host of NBC’s “Today,” Matt Lauer once gave a colleague a sex toy as a present. It included an explicit note about how he wanted to use it on her, which left her mortified.

On another day, he summoned a different female employee to his office, and then dropped his pants, showing her his penis. After the employee declined to do anything, visibly shaken, he reprimanded her for not engaging in a sexual act. …

Lauer, who was paranoid about being followed by tabloid reporters, grew more emboldened at 30 Rockefeller Center as his profile rose following Katie Couric’s departure from “Today” in 2006. His office was in a secluded space, and he had a button under his desk that allowed him to lock his door from the inside without getting up. This afforded him the assurance of privacy. It allowed him to welcome female employees and initiate inappropriate contact while knowing nobody could walk in on him, according to two women who were sexually harassed by Lauer.

Holy shit. These are just the early details as the allegations against Matt Lauer start to get, if you’ll pardon the expression, fleshed out. The first pebbles rolling down the hill of what will undoubtedly be an avalanche, if we’ve learned anything from Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey, Louis CK, Al Franken and the cast of thousands.

So far these things follow a fairly similar pattern. Creepshow finds someone he can exercise power over. Make up a work-related excuse to get her/him alone. Victimize. Intimidate. Show them your dick. Threaten. Repeat. It’s like there are Webinars you visit to teach you the method.

But as far as I’m aware, Lauer is the first one to have automatic rape locks put on his office door. It boggles the mind. Because that could not have been cheap. Did the Today Show budget pick up the cost of that particular line item? Did he pay for it and expense it? Or is a rape door something you have to pay for out of pocket? And is there any way to justify having doors that lock with the press of a button that doesn’t include molesting staff members? Because that is some real Dr. Evil technology. And someone other than Lauer is going to have to explain how they signed off on it.

It’s going to be fascinating to watch this one play out more than all the other so far, just because Lauer passed himself off as such a paragon of goodguyness prior to this. And the more this story goes on, the more clips will be posted from his segments. Things we’ll see in a totally different light. Like the time he berated Bill O’Reilly for … sexual harassment allegations:

Or the time he victim-shamed the hell out of Corey Feldman:

Looking back now, you wonder if how many interns he trapped his secluded Harassment Dungeon the same days he moralized all over these two. What a scumbag.
