There are very few semi-pro sports leagues that do promotional jerseys better than the ECHL. By the way, I know I’m probably going to catch shit from ECHL hardos about calling the league “semi-pro” but I literally never know what to call it. Are you guys a pro league, a minor league, a semi-pro league? I’m just sticking with semi-pro for now and if that’s wrong then whatever. But yeah, the ECHL always crushes these gimmick jerseys. However, there comes a time in every facet of life where things just start to grow old. You can only have so many Star Wars nights. You can only have so many 90s nights. You can only have so many Don Cherry jersey nights. Eventually these things start to repeat themselves.

So how do you stay out in front? How do you go out there and change the game? By paying homage to one of the greatest scenes in cinematic history, that’s how.

Now I know there are some people out there who think this move was incredibly disrespectful to the TROOPS for throwing out the USA jerseys in favor of new Ducks uniforms. And I know other people out there feel that this is completely unrealistic. To think that not only would the team change jerseys, but they’d have new pants and new socks and new gloves and new everything. How would they have time to get completely changed after they spent so much of the intermission on that incredibly inspirational group speech? That’s neither here nor there. The fact of the matter is once the team threw on those Ducks uniforms, you knew Team Iceland was in for a world of hurt.

So now the Cincinnati Cyclones are going to take it one step further. They’ll have the original Mighty Ducks jerseys for the 1st period. Team USA for the 2nd period. And then they’ll make the dramatic switch to the newer Ducks jersey for the 3rd and hopefully it’ll have as much of an impact on their game as it did the ’94 Goodwill Junior Games gold medal game. I’m just glad they decided to forget about the Eden Hall jerseys. It’s 2017. Don’t they know how offensive it is for a team’s mascot to be the “Warriors”?
