CNN's Jake Tapper Roasts Some No-Name Writer Who Created Widespread Lie About Tapper's Comments On "Allahu Akbar" Following The NYC Terror Attack
So let’s start with the facts. CNN’s Jake Tapper, discussing reports that the NYC incident was indeed a terror attack and that the terrorist yelled “Allahu Akbar,” described the usage of the phrase and mentioned that it is indeed used both in the most beautiful of circumstances and, too often, in moments like this horrific one.
Take a look.
Clearly Tapper said the phrase is “sometimes said under the most beautiful of circumstances, and too often we hear of it being said in moments like this.” That’s what he said verbatim.
He did not say the phrase is beautiful, yet look at these headlines.
This is the kid who originally started the lie.
This is some no-name kid, but his story picked up traction, Fox and others ran with it, so Tapper aggressively defended himself.
And also went after Fox and Hannity.
I jumped in the mix because I couldn’t help myself. It was great watching Tapper rinse this kid for smearing him.
And Tapper continued to let a few others have it.
Now, anyone with a brain can see exactly what happened here. Tapper made the comments he made during coverage, contextualizing the phrase and culminating that contextualization by saying far too often the phrase is used in horrific circumstances like in the NYC attack… then those seeking to discredit him took the comments and opportunistically smeared him. They sought to paint the narrative that a CNN anchor called Allahu Akbar “beautiful” moments after a terrorist murdered 8 people while yelling it.
That’s a fucked up, dishonest move, and Tapper is absolutely right in both defending himself and calling out others. They know what they’re doing, which actually makes it even worse.
This goes to show how muddy the media waters are now. It’s incredibly important for everybody to determine who they trust and why. If you’re following the Riggsy school of journalism* (*not a real thing), know that Jake Tapper is one of the good ones. There are good journalists and shitty journalists at every media organization, no doubt; I find Tapper to be a good, smart, honest, ethical, and diligent dude who does the job the right way.
Seeing him get smeared sucks. Seeing him fight it is awesome. Go Tapp Go.
