I Did Not Mind The Red Sox Winning The 2013 World Series And Frankly You're An Asshole If You Disagree With My Reasoning

Let me get this out loud and clear. I hate the fucking Boston Red Sox with every last dying passion in my bones. I hope they lose every goddamn game for the rest of eternity. I fucking hate Pedroia, pretty bitch boy Benintendi, Devers oh do I fucking hate Rafael Devers, Kimbrel, all of them. I’ve hated them my whole life going back to the day I was born. Billy Mueller, Trot Nixon, Gabe fucking Kapler, Josh Beckett, Manny, and Pedro. I hate ALL OF THEM. I wish nothing but horrible things for them on the field. I hate Boston Clam Chowder, Boston Cream Pie, Fenway Franks, Boston Baked Beans, Boston Lobster, Boston Bread. I hate it all. When I visited Boston for the first time in my life last year I only ate fast food cause I refused to eat Boston delicacies. The city makes me wanna throw the fuck up. But let me tell you something…2013 was different.

The Yankees finished 85-77, good for 3rd place, and missed the playoff for the first time since 2008. Rivera and Pettitte retired at the end of the year and it was all shit. I was in my Freshman year of college at Syracuse when the Marathon Bombings happened. I was just getting to know the same group of friends I would stick with for four years and I still talk to on a regular basis. A good amount of them were from Boston and were honestly the first group of people I’d ever met from the area. Before that, this website was my only connection to the city if we’re being frank. We stayed up all night when it happened, listening to the police scanners, checking Dave’s live tweets of shit going on, and I got to experience the horror these guys and girls were going through. It was honestly hard to witness. Some of them were impacted from the attacks and I honestly couldn’t imagine what they were going through. During the 9/11 attacks I was in 2nd grade and I remember my dad, who worked in the city, couldn’t be reached for hours. I was too young to fully grasp the situation of course, but I could tell my mom was very worried. My dad was eventually turned up okay and it was a big relief. My uncle was covered in ash from the buildings. You could say that the Marathon Bombings were my first true taste of a major terrorist attack on American soil.

Sports have the ability to impact so much in a time of hopelessness. You saw what it did in 2001 when the Yankees made their World Series run and how they made the most improbable comebacks in baseball history to win some of those games against the Diamondbacks. It rallied the city and gave them the distraction they needed from a time of absolute horror. I saw it happen to my childhood hero Brett Favre when he lost his dad and played the next day on Monday Night Football. Sports gave him the out in his life to put his distractions to the side and just relax. People who don’t watch sports are literally insane people. They have no idea the possible impact they can have on our lives.

In 2013, the Boston Red Sox did that to the city of Boston. Watching it happen was a weird feeling because you could tell this team had something special. Carrabis writes this great blog every year on the anniversary of the championship about how much this meant to the city. If you didn’t read it yesterday give it a read after this. From my school friends reactions, I saw enough. I saw a similar rallying cry to what the ’01 Yankees had. The city relied on these guys to distract them from the horror that the Tsarnaev brothers created. I can be an asshole Yankees fan for 99% of my life, but I’m not brain dead like those that came at me on Twitter yesterday after I tweeted this.

The JJ’s of the world came at me from all angles saying I shouldn’t be allowed to write about the Yankees anymore or that I’m a fake fan. Maybe rooted was the wrong word? Maybe I should’ve just said I didn’t mind them winning ,which is probably better wording. It wasn’t like I was jumping for joy on every pitch and screaming when Papi hit the grand slam. That’s probably what people had in their heads when I said rooted so I apologize for that. When they won I was happy for them. I was happy for the city. They deserved it. Fuck the Tigers or the Cardinals at the time. Who cared about them?

If you call me out for being happy for a city undergoing such hardship, just know you’re a fucking moron. If you can’t put aside your hatred of a sports team to realize the good of them winning did to that city you’re pretty much brain dead. You’re so stuck up in a rivalry, which at the time was absolutely DEAD, that you can’t possibly root for a city so badly wounded and in need of distraction? Honestly, there’s something wrong with you. I can GUARANTEE there were Mets and Red Sox fans who didn’t care at all if the Yankees won in 2001. Maybe they won’t admit it, but anyone with a brain at the time could be happy for NYC during those trying times. Were they happy the Yanks lost in Game 7? I’m sure they were because at the end of the day the magical comebacks and the run to get there were enough to help NYC heal a little. Them losing in Game 7 was a win-win for Mets-Red Sox fans.

So no, I had zero problem with the 2013 Boston Red Sox winning the World Series. I’ll never EVER wish good for that team ever again. One time deal boys and girls, but that year was different.

Fuck the Red Sox. I hope Alex Cora is the worst hire in the history of sports and that this whole team falls apart. I hope they lose 162 fucking game next year. I know the Yankees are gonna win at least four World Series titles in the next decade and it’s going to be the happiest I’ve ever been. But I fully stand by what I said yesterday and if you have a problem with it I simply don’t give a fuck. You’re just wrong.
