Man ALMOST Gets Away In Stolen Ambulance After Leading Police On A Scenic High Speed Chase

Fox2Detroit -  A Macomb Township man is facing charges after authorities say he hopped in an unattended ambulance and drove off, leading police on a chase throughout Mt. Clemens.

Authorities say the crime happened around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 7. MedStar workers had entered the hospital to drop off a patient, and left the ambulance parked just outside.vThat’s when authorities say a 21-year-old man from Macomb Township got inside the ambulance and drove off.

“Two deputies that were in the area saw the van and attempted to stop it,” Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said.

A brief chase ensued and at one point, the suspect drove off the road and down a grassy hill.No one was injured but investigators are looking into what caused the Macomb township man to take the ambulance.

Shocking right? Not for Detroit. First thing the Chamber Of Commerce tells you other than “don’t come here” is don’t leave your car unattended. Doesn’t matter if it’s an am-ba-lance or a 1996 Lexus GS with a bubbly tint and plastic spinners. If you leave it, they will come. And by “they” I mean pilled-out twenty-one year olds with nothing to lose.

Not going to lie, I was rooting for the kid. It takes balls to steal an ambulance, turn on the sirens, and go for a joy ride unprovoked. Which is the sneaky funniest part- that he wasn’t even fleeing from a crime. He was just walking out of the doctor’s office and decided to spice up his afternoon. I envy his spontaneity.

I’ve always wanted to get into a car chase. Just to see if I could outrun the cops. I’m pretty sure I could do it too, as long as I had home field advantage. If I’m in unfamiliar territory forget it. I’d be checking the GPS, missing turns, it’d be a nightmare. I assume that’s what happened here. The suspect’s GPS told him to take a right and he Michael Scott’ed himself right onto a golf course.

Credit where credit is due, he was able to avoid the pit maneuver. But he still got caught. It probably didn’t help that the vehicle he stole is specifically designed to be noticed. At least he got to satisfy his curiosity. Totally worth the twenty years in prison.

Ps,

Detroit doesn’t get credit for much, but let’s take a minute to acknowledge that sunset. GORGEOUS.
