Philippines President To Cops: "You Are Free To Kill The Idiots" Who Resist Arrest
Fox News — Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday ordered police in his country that it is OK to kill “idiots” who violently resist arrest, just two days after hundreds turned a funeral of a slain teenager into a protest against his deadly war on drugs.
Duterte made the comments during a speech in a cemetery on the outskirts of Manila. He was addressing a police chief in a town in the southern part of the country where the mayor was killed in an anti-drugs raid, according to Reuters.
“Your duty requires you to overcome the resistance of the person you are arresting… (if) he resists, and it is a violent one… you are free to kill the idiots, that is my order to you,” Duterte told Chief Jovie Espenido.
Rodrigo Duterte is an absolute wild man who’s said some crazy, fucked up, downright appalling things. He’s made ridiculously offensive rape jokes and hired female assassins to trick and ultimately kill bad guys. He’s conducted a ruthless war on drugs. He’s pledged to kill tens of thousands of drug dealers and dump their bodies in the sea. Guy hates drug dealers more than anything you’ve ever hated and it’s not even close. I guarantee it. Despises them. Said this about drug traffickers and drug addicts.
“These sons of whores are destroying our children. I warn you, don’t go into that, even if you’re a policeman, because I will really kill you,” the head of state told the audience.
“If you know of any addicts, go ahead and kill them yourself as getting their parents to do it would be too painful.”
Again, he’s said some outlandish, psychotic things. But I don’t think this here is one of those things.
This is a sound bite that sounds wild but actually isn’t. Police can kill bad guys who violently resist arrest? Yeah no shit. We’re talking the Philippines folks. The Philippines. What moron thinks they can violently resist arrest in the Philippines and not die? The idiots, that’s who. The idiots who Philippines authorities will be killing. Honestly I don’t think you can violently do anything to the police anywhere in the world and not run the risk of being killed but ESPECIALLY in places like the Philippines. You can’t violently resist arrest nor can you violently accept arrest. Violence against police = you’re fucked. Pretty much always.
PS — Serious note: The Philippines is suffering an awful, extremely deadly war on drugs. Literally thousands of people have been killed. Duterte’s comments come on the heals of a massive protest following anti-drug police executing a 17-year-old boy in an alley in what they called self defense. Duterte’s plan appears to be to eradicate drugs and crime via violently eliminating anyone carrying out said crime (or even suspected of carrying out crimes). The international community intensely condemns this approach, stating it’s too absolute, too extreme, and too deadly. Hard not to agree.
You might think of the Philippines as just some islands “over there,” but the place has over 100 million people. These are huge issues facing a huge number of people simply born in the wrong place at the wrong time. It sucks.
