Umpire Tells Adrian Beltre To Stand In The On-Deck Circle, Beltre Moves On-Deck Circle To Where He Was Standing, Is Promptly Ejected

I’d like to nominate MLB umpire Gerry Davis for the Asshole of the Year award. Think of all the factors in play here for a second. Number one, it’s fucking EIGHTEEN TO SIX. Like the broadcast team said, in a game like that in which the Rangers are losing by 12 friggin’ runs, there’s only one reason why a majority of that crowd was still there, and it was to see Adrian Beltre hit, not Gerry Davis umpire. After going 3-for-3 prior to the ejection, Beltre is now four hits shy of reaching 3,000 hits for his major league career.

So, we’re at A.) it’s a blowout so who cares? B.) Everyone was there to see Beltre hit and you just robbed the entire crowd of the only reason why they were sticking it out through a shitty game, which brings us to C.) Beltre has done funny shit like this for his entire career. He’s always messing around, busting balls, joking with his teammates, letting his teammates fuck with him, etc.

Granted, this moment will still end up on his funny highlight reels when it’s all said and done, but it would’ve been much funnier had Davis gone along with it and actually had a sense of humor about it. Way to give more ammo to the crowd that thinks baseball isn’t fun and that it’s policed by a bunch of old, uptight white guys. Love you, Beltre. Never change.
