Chicago Cubs shortstop Addison Russell was bombarded by a slew of increasingly troubling accusations on Wednesday.

His wife, Melisa, accused him in an Instagram post of cheating on her, and in the comments section of that post, her friend said Russell also hit Melisa in front of their two children.

“Being free to be able to make your own choices for your own happiness beats being cheated on, lied to, & disrespected any day. #herestonewbeginnings #onlygetsbetterfromhere,” Melisa wrote.

After her friend’s comment alleging physical abuse became public, according to Larry Brown Sports, Melisa followed with another social media messageaddressing the accusations.

“My post is meant to be empowering, not degrading. At all. I hope it empowers women and inspires other women to ‘not take s–t’ from anyone, regardless of who they are. Hoping to empower other women to stand up for themselves is not a crime AND … i think it’s brave and REAL to show that life’s not perfect, and it’s ok,” Melisa wrote, adding, “Sorry not sorry.”

MLB is investigating Russell and hopes to interview Melisa and her friend, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Not Good! This was going on last night during the Cubs game and Finals Game 3. It started as simply Addison Russell’s wife posting on Instagram and accusing him of cheating, not good. It then quickly took a turn from “guy getting blow up on Instagram” to “serious shit” with the accusation that Addison was physically abusive to his wife, an accusation made by his wife’s best friend. I honestly don’t know where MLB, the Cubs, and everyone goes from here. Accusations made on an Instagram post that has now been deleted is some real 2017 shit. I guess we wait and see? Very unusual place to go from when there was no reported incident or arrest or anything like that but the accusations still should be taken very seriously. MLB released a statement to the Sun Times saying they’ll be investigating, so who the hell knows. My initial assessment stands though, not good and borderline very bad!
