Does Any Show Get Slept On Harder Than HBO's Real Sports?
I’ve had this blog in the pipeline for a while now because Real Sports is fucking awesome and I don’t think that it gets nearly enough praise as it deserves. Everybody is always all over ESPN’s jock for how good the 30 for 30’s are, which I agree most of them are great, but I really think these put them to shame. If you’re somehow unfamiliar with it it’s essentially three investigative segments per show that HBO does on a wide assortment of sports topics.
Now, I know that the first question to come out of everybody’s mouth will be (probably the second question-the first one will be the classic “Who are you?!?”) “How can it be underrated when it’s won a bunch of awards?” But, the thing is that- nobody gives a shit about most awards. You know it. I know it. Everybody knows it.
Is it the smug look of Bryant Gumbel with his glasses hanging low what turns everybody off?
Maybe.
Jon Frankel, David Scott, Andrea Kremer and all the other correspondents do enough to offset that though. HBOGo even breaks them up into 20 minute clips so you don’t have to watch the ones that you don’t care about. I can go on and on, but you get what I’m trying to say at this point.
Some good ones to start with that are still on HBOGo are:
-The original Domestic Violence in MMA. They have the updated version on there now that pretty much catches you up to speed. A lot of it covers the Christy Mack/War Machine case and also shows how much of a nut job Mayhem Miller is.
Yoga Scandal- This one was WILD. It chronicles the dude who pretty much founded Hot Yoga and he’s absolutely insane.
Cockfighting- Pretty self explanatory.
AR-15 Rifle- Interviews the guy who created the gun and his thoughts on todays gun laws.
Rick Ankiel- Goes into depth about him losing his command in the middle of the 2000 NLDS
There’s so many more, but I’ll stop here.
And that’s bringing the SPORTS back to BarstoolSPORTS for the week.
