Patch- An 83-year-old man was arrested after he signed himself out of a hospital and then stole an ambulance that had keys in the ignition early Tuesday, Nassau Police said. According to police, Donald Winkler, of Potter Avenue in North Merrick, was an admitted patient at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow for an illness when he became upset with his care and signed himself out of the hospital around 1 a.m., police said. Upon walking out of the emergency room doors and into the parking lot, Winkler observed and entered a Nassau County Police ambulance with the keys in the ignition and drove it away, police said.

RUN! RUN FREE OLD FELLA! FREEDOM!!!!!!!!!! It’s beyond fucked up that they arrested this guy. Have a heart, local police. 100% of people would do the same thing this old guy did. Hospitals are the worst. I don’t have a fear of hospitals like some people do but I am very aware that they are the worst places in the world. Just dead or dying people all over the place and that terrible smell that no one can quite put their finger on. We’ve all watched people die in hospitals and it sucks and it’s sterile and it’s awful. This old guy didn’t want that for himself or for his family so he did something about it. I’m making this up but I guarantee he just wanted to get back to his old reclining chair and die there in peace. Should he not have stole that ambulance? I really don’t care. I’m leaning towards saying yes he should’ve stole that ambulance. He should’ve checked himself out and GTAed that ambulance. He should’ve done everything he did. He did nothing wrong.
