The Trailer for Disgraced, the 2003 Baylor Basketball Scandal, Dropped and It Looks Awesome

So, I’ve heard about this documentary for a little bit and just saw the trailer dropped. And. Holy. Shit. It looks awesome. Obviously the situation back then is insane and incredibly sad, but this documentary is a must-watch. What I was shocked by is how many people on Twitter came back and said they either never heard about the scandal or forgot about it. That’s insane to me as this is the most ridiculous scandal in college sports.

For those that aren’t familiar with it, the short version is Patrick Dennehy (a star on the Baylor roster) was shot to death by teammate Carlton Dotson, while head coach Dave Bliss covered the murder up because he was trying to make sure no one found out he was paying Dennehy’s tuition. If that’s not enough Bliss tried to publicly portray Dennehy as a drug dealer to explain how he paid for his tuition. In other news Dave Bliss is a trash person.

The scandal forced some of the toughest sanctions we’ve ever seen with Baylor seeing probation through 2010, completely eliminating nonconference play for a year and a bunch of other sanctions. What it did though was let Scott Drew come to Baylor and have the best rebuilding job we’ve ever seen in college basketball. But, the fact he had a winning season just five years in and has gotten some McDonald’s All-American to go there (remember this shit happened just 14 years ago) is insane. He may not be the best x’s and o’s coach, but what he’s done in making Baylor relevant and get to two Elite Eights is nothing short of incredible.
