17 Players Within 3 Shots Of The Lead For The Final Round At Torrey Pines

Farmers Insurance Open - Round Three

No Tiger, No DJ, No Rickie, No Jason Day. But that doesn’t matter — we’ve got 17 players within 3 shots of the lead, including some big names. Phil Mickelson’s just 4 back, and a spectacular, difficult golf course awaits.

It’s the final round of the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines, the unofficial first “big one” of the year. Here’s our leaderboard.

Sneds is our defending champ and two-time Farmers Insurance Open winner. In both of those cases, he came from 7 and 6 shots back. Going off in the final group and tied for the lead will be a welcomed change. Also don’t let him get a wedge/short-iron in his hands.

Tony Finau may have the most momentum coming into Sunday — he’s just one back after firing a 5-under 67, playing his last 6 holes in 4-under on Saturday.

Patrick Rodgers is a 24-year-old up-and-comer. His biggest title? A Web.com Tour win two years ago; he’ll be nervous today, but kid’s got game. He’s part of that high school 2011 class (Spieth, JT, Berger).

Ollie Schniederjans also part of that class. He’s one of few dudes who goes hatless out there. Hard not to respect the kinda flow it takes to pull that off.

(I won’t pretend Cheng Tsung Pan, Robert Streb, Jon Rahm and JJ Spaun are big names. They’re there but I don’t think you, me, or the network coverage are pulling for these dudes.)

Pat Perez is just two back. He’s a legend and has been playing excellent golf since November.

Stewart Cink’s just two back, but I’ll never forgive him for stealing that 2009 British Open from Tom Watson in his ridiculous ass lime green (his wife is battling cancer — like real cancer not Francis cancer — so hard to root against him).

The 138th Open Championship - Final Round

To Faldo’s pleasure we’ve got some Euro flavor in the mix: Brits Justin Rose and Paul Casey, Swede Jonas Blixt, and Italian Francesco Molinari.

Jam-packed leaderboard with an arsenal of interesting names. With the Aussie Open done, the NFL on Super Bowl bye week, and the NHL on all-star break, this should be the best sports TV of the day. Coverage begins at 1pm est on Golf Channel and switches over to CBS from 3pm until we’re done. Final group tees off at 1:15.

Sit back and enjoy. If we’re lucky, we’ll get something like this…
