Tim Duncan's Jersey Retirement Ceremony Was Perfect

920x920

If you missed this last night, you missed one of the greatest celebrations of the best player of the post MJ/pre Lebron era. Tim Duncan, “The Big Fundamental” will forever be considered the greatest Power Forward of all time in my opinion. You should all know the accolades by now so I won’t bore you.

Instead I want to talk about what happened in SA as they raised Duncan’s 21 to the rafters. It was truly one of the most special things we’ll see in sports. I certainly don’t see anyone currently in the NBA that will stay with a franchise that long, have that level of success, and not only that, but have a core of guys stay together for that long ever again in the NBA. What made this event great was it included maybe the two most awkward people on planet earth. Name two people who hate being praised more than Duncan and Popovich. Just a couple of robots attempting to show emotion. Anytime you can make that man appear human, you know you’re special. Watching them awkwardly squirm and smile is great stuff.

Great, great stuff. I don’t even care about the Spurs and Manu had it dusty in here. Crazy to think the league doesn’t have guys like KG, Kobe, and Duncan in it anymore. Something tells me Kobe won’t have the same type of moment though.

Tim Duncan: hell of a career, hell of a player.

P.S.

God. Dammit.
