Incredibly Eerie Video Surfaces And Might Be The Key To A 2009 Cold Case With A Missing Teen (Potentially Disturbing)

NTIGO (WAOW)– Authorities are investigating what could be a new lead in the cold case investigation of a missing teen. That’s according to Antigo Police. On their Facebook page, the department says a YouTube video that recently went viral may be connected to Kayla Berg. The video titled “Hi Walter! I got a new gf!” was posted on October 11, 2009, two months to the day after Kayla Berg was last seen. In the 58-second video, a man describes an encounter with his new girlfriend, then shows a woman who appears to be chained up in a locked room, crying and making muffled screams. People saying they’re friends of Kayla are leaving comments on the video saying they’re troubled by it. Because of its disturbing nature, Action 2 News is not providing a direct link to the video. Kayla’s mom Hope Sprenger was concerned that the girl in the video could be her missing daughter. “[It] sounded like her, looked like her, it gave me chills,” Sprenger told our ABC sister station WAOW-TV in Wausau. “It made me sick to my stomach.” Sprenger said certain details in the video had her concerned. “The clothing could be a big possibility,” she said. “We do believe she was wearing that type of shirt, we know she had jeans.” Antigo Police agree the girl at the end of the video resembles Berg. “We’ll do whatever we can to find out who’s in there and identify them,” Police Chief Eric Roller said. “Sometimes that’s hard on the web because of wherever this stuff may originate from [but] we’re going to do everything we can to get to the bottom of it. A number of people posted their own YouTube videos claiming to debunk the “Hi Walter!” video as a hoax, based on their observations that Patrick’s excited talk sounds scripted and the woman doesn’t begin screaming until he opens the door.

Some weird, weird shit is going down on the internet right now. “Hi Walter, I got a gf!” taking the deep web weird internet by storm. Unfortunately its all morbid curiosity from myself and everyone else out there. I am a huge fan of the True Crime wave from the past couple years. From Serial to The Jinx to Making A Murderer to The Staircase. It even all goes back to Robert Stack and Unsolved Mysteries. Its probably pretty sick but these stories turn into entertainment and you unfortunately almost forget that we’re talking about real life murders or disappearances.

But anyway, here we are yet again. Quick rundown – Kayla Berg disappeared in 2009, this video was uploaded to Youtube 2 months after that. Nobody had ever noticed it until now. Now its been removed from Youtube and the police are investigating it. People are quick to say its fake or a hoax, wondering why it resurfaced now, why the girl only started screaming after the door opened, and a lot of other nitpicking details about the video that supposedly make it unreliable. But the timelines match up, and Kayla was last seen wearing jeans and a red shirt, which is exactly what the girl in the video is wearing, and it looks enough like her. You can read through a long string of theories, news updates, and screenshots breaking down the video.

Either way, its some really creepy shit. One the one hand if it can help find her, that would be amazing. On the other hand if we’re really watching a video with a kidnapping on camera, thats some fucked up shit. On the third hand, if someone is exploiting this girl’s missing persons case all for an internet hoax, thats maybe even more fucked up.

All in all, the real dark side of the internet. But maybe there’s some shred of a possibility this can actually help police investigate what is obviously a very cold case. Its all very bleak and upsetting but just hope for the best.
