Boogie Cousins Said That He Doesn't Know Who Paul McCartney Is

My reaction when reading this tweet:

At first when I heard this, I was taken aback. A 26-year-old not knowing Paul McCartney seems wild to an old fuck like me. Unlike KFC and Feits, I love Beatles music because it’s absolutely delightful. I fundamentally don’t understand how people can hear Hey Jude, Yesterday, Come Together, etc. and think “Those guys suck/are overrated”.

But I have no problem with Boogie not knowing who Paul McCartney is for a few reasons.
1. I imagine I had a slightly different upbringing in suburban New York than Boggie had in Mobile, Alabama.
2. Everyone knows OF the Beatles. But the knowledge of names like Paul McCartney and John Lennon do not match that of The Beatles. It’s just simple facts. I guarantee Boogie has at least a faint idea that The Beatles were a band. He may not know any of their songs or that half of the band is dead (Ringo’s still alive, right?). But that’s splitting hairs.
3. I like to tell myself that Boogie saw The Simpsons episode with Paul McCartney because Lisa The Vegetarian is an all-time great. But I also have to realize that The Simpsons was just beginning its downward spiral during Boogie’s formative years.
4. “FourFiveSeconds” isn’t good enough to spread the name of Paul McCartney to a younger generation. There, I said it.
5. Most importantly, when Boogie inevitably becomes a Knick, I want him to be my friend. Not best friends or anything (still holding that spot open for Godzingis). But at least a casual head nod if we ever happen to pass each other on the street. And yes, I realize Boogie will never be a Knick until the very tail end of his career but the Knicks will still pay him like he’s in his prime.

So keep doing you, Boogie. And don’t forget I defended you from all the #haterz on the internet if the idiots in Sacramento ever let you hit free agency.
