The MSG Crowd Already Loves Brandon Jennings After He Mixed It Up With Casper Ware During Last Night's Win

NY Daily News- The Garden crowd already found a favorite. Brandon Jennings, playing enthusiastically as the point guard while Derrick Rose is on trial in L.A., heard his name chanted in the third quarter of Monday’s 90-88 against the Wizards, the product of a tense moment between him and Washington’s Casper Ware.

Jennings basically shoved Ware on the perimeter while on defense. Ware then walked aggressively into the face of Jennings, who clapped his hands and pointed to his head, saying, “I got him.” “I found something personal,” Jennings said. “And I smelled blood out there.” “This is New York, the concrete jungle,” he added. “When you walk in the Garden it’s not going to be sweet at all.”

Now THAT’S a player that was built to play in New York. I have made my hatred of lefty point guards very well known on this blog for years, but Brandon Jennings is different. He isn’t some awkward son of a bitch with a weird ass shot. Jennings is actually smoother than most righty point guards. But the thing I love about him is his spunk. I don’t care if it was preseason or that Casper Ware is some undrafted player trying to get a spot on an NBA roster. Getting in a dude’s face and clapping like a psycho is some real life Joker shit. Add Jennings alongside Joakim Noah (if he ever gets healthy) and we are going to have two players playing games on the court and in people’s minds.

Which is an upgrade in energy displayed by some past Knicks players

Jennings is also definitely a lefty when it comes to his brain. Whether it’s going to Italy to play pro ball instead of going to college, deciding the attend a family function instead of attending the draft and then going to the draft a few picks after he was drafted, or announcing his number with one of those Barstool-level Photoshops (non-Milmore edition).

Oh yeah and every time Jennings played the Knicks, he tried to murder them because they passed on him in the 2009 draft for the immortal Jordan Hill. You know, the guy that was drafted right after Steph Curry and right before DeMarr Derozan.

Fuck that draft.

Anyway, New York loves a guy that holds a grudge and is good at talking shit. And we also like flash, even if Jennings can go 1-for-10 at the drop of a hat. I rode the John Starks roller coaster for years and even though I’ll never forget Game 7 of the NBA Finals, I still love seeing a wild man rocking the number 3 in orange and blue. I know it’s basically a cliche at this point, but the Garden is different than any other arena when it’s rocking. That sound can’t really be replicated and guys like Jennings bring it out more than others. Which is why I am happy that Brandon Jennings is here just in case Derrick Rose is unavailable for part of the season because of his rape trial or one of Rose’s body parts explodes.
