CNN- The popular West Village hotel, the Standard High Line, opened up its rooms to residents living within the attack area. In a Facebook post, the hotel said residents would proof of address could also eat for free.
Stories like this is further proof that no matter what those terrorist fuckheads do, we will keep winning. Yes a lot of the sentiment on this blog is about how much New York City can suck as a place to live. But that’s a product of it being crowded, expensive, and dirty. The people that live here are the only thing that holds everything together. That guy didn’t just get those cops Dunkin Donuts sludge or warmed up poop from a bodega. He got real deal Starbucks. That shit ain’t cheap. And I appreciate him for it, because you know that Starbucks coffee had the cops grinding extra hard. It’s like a three mushroom blast off in Mario Kart.
And shout out to The Standard. I know that ANY business that is in the Meatpacking District is probably above my pay grade. And then I saw The Standard’s homepage and knew it was out of my price range. The logo being upside down plus the view and impeccable graphic design is enough to tell me that it is out of my price range. $400 minimum for a one night stay. Wild. And they are just giving away rooms to people that need help because it is the right thing to do.
But again, that’s just New Yorkers answering the bell and helping each other out. Tale as old as time.
There have been a lot of issues around our country about what being an American or supporting police is all about. And it takes something like this, a week after the 15th anniversary of 9/11, to again show how great we can be as a city and a country when we are united. Things aren’t good right now and will take years of hard work to fix. But acts like this prove that we have good people in America that can strive to make it a better country.
