Dustin Johnson Wins BMW, Huge Day For America

Ryder Cup - Day Three Singles

Big, big day for America. Ryder Cup on the horizon. Football is back. It’s September 11th. Big day for America for a lot of reasons and, in the golf world, we delivered. Dustin Johnson played an incredible final round of golf at the BMW at Crooked Stick, all but locking up his player of the year award and reaffirming our belief in Uncle Sam’s boys heading into the Ryder Cup.

With Rory winning last week and Paul Casey making a run today, we were worried. No, Casey’s not on the Euro team — but he’s a Euro nonetheless and we don’t like Euros. At least not this month. Casey played PHENOMENAl. He shot 5-under. Typically, when you’re in the final group and you play phenomenal, you win. Not today. Casey made eagle on the par-5 fifteenth… and it didn’t even win him the hole.

Really the only thing Dustin Johnson didn’t deliver today was Paulina’s ass on a silver plate, like at Oakmont.

Oh well, beggars cannot be choosers.

America

Very, very welcome & good news all-around for American golf fans. While DJ won, bubble boys Matt Kuchar and JB Holmes (who WILL be captain’s picks, in my opinion) both finished inside the top-5. This is massive considering how poorly our guys played last week. While top-5s don’t win you Ryder Cups, good form, good golf, and high levels of confidence sure do. Playing well through September is huge for that, and our guys seem to be. Thank the lord.

Predictions

As you know, every week I predict a winner, a winning score and a DFL finisher. This week I went with Adam Scott, -18, and Billy Horschel for DFL. If we’re in the trust tree being completely honest with each other, those picks were not particularly accurate. Scott did not win. Winning score was not 18-under. Billy Horschel finished tied for 10th. Dammit.

However, outside of Horschel I was not wildly far off. Adam Scott finished T4 and although DJ finished 23-under, 18-under bested 67 out of 69 (nice) players in the field. Dustin and Casey were just too good.

Ryder Cup

Now, U.S. Captain Davis Love III will make 3 of his 4 captain’s picks. The final pick will be made after the Tour Championship in 2 weeks. Who do I think he will pick? Holmes, Kuchar and Fowler. Who would I pick? Holmes, Fowler and Daniel Berger. I like Kuch, I just think we need new blood. Young guns. Fresh talent. The old guard hasn’t worked and we need an injection of new talent. We’re America. We have it. Lots of it. Let’s tap into that and see what happens.

I don’t think DLIII will go in that direction, but one can hope. Go USA and congrats DJ. He’s won 3 of last 8 starts. A major and a FedEx Cup event. Love it. Love DJ — and love his girl even more. America fer the win.
