So if you’re watching the coverage right now and Rory’s not done yet and you’re thinking “holy shit Riggs knows the future,” you got duped. The Tour pushed up the tee times today to beat Hurricane Hermine — leaders went off at 9 and the live action was streamed by the Golf Channel.

Rory won. His swing is nice.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again — if you took one of those aliens that’s stalking earth, set them on a PGA Tour driving range, and had them just observe for a few minutes, they would point to Rory McIlroy’s swing and say, “Yep, that’s it. Everybody do that.” It’s beautiful.

Rory teed it up 6-back this morning, but a stumbling Paul Casey opened the door. Rory went out in 5-under 31 and, as we settled in for the back 9, had a 2-man race. After a perfect tee shot on the difficult par-4 twelfth, he somehow conquered this horrible break.

Here's how Rory McIlroy took over the lead today at TPC Boston.

He did bogey seventeen and was just 1 ahead. But then he did what Rory does and striped 2 shots on the par-5 eighteenth to get his ball into a greenside bunker. After nearly holing the bunker shot, he tapped in for bird and a 2-stroke lead. Paul Casey gave it his best, giving himself a 60-footer for eagle and the tie on eighteen, but couldn’t quite pull it off.

Although we like Rory and we like Rory’s swing, this ain’t good heading into Ryder Cup season. We want the Euros limping into Minnesota, not sprinting in with Boston titles. This makes us nervous.

PS — Generally root very heavily against Paul Casey, but had to respect him and his caddie after this incident on Saturday. Didn’t like it but I respected it.
