It's More Dangerous To Ban Drinking Coffee While Driving Than To Allow It
FOX - Are you ready to face a four-hundred dollar fine, for drinking coffee while driving? A bill making its way through the New Jersey legislature takes distracted driving to new heights.
“If it saves lives, it could save your own life or someone else’s as well.”
Texting and talking on your phone is already illegal, but Assemblyman John Wisniewski wants to go even further. He wants to ban things like eating, grooming and even drinking non-alcoholic beverages.
Wisniewski said, “Driving distractions cause over 400,000 injuries each year and over 3,000 fatalities. These are injuries and fatalities there are easily preventable.” Violators would face fines in the hundreds of dollars. Repeat offenders could even lose their licenses.

I get laws are made generally to make us safer, but this is one definitely, 100% does not make us safer. To many, coffee is life and every last second is valuable. Nobody has time to sit down, read the paper, and sip their coffee. This isn’t 1950 anymore. Everything is on the go. Everyone is working around the clock, and everyone needs their coffee to survive. Banning drinking coffee behind the wheel is just asking for more accidents, not less. Without coffee you’re just inviting zombies to get behind the wheel and try their best. We don’t need 500 soccer moms driving into ditches every morning because they couldn’t have their dose of caffeine. We don’t need everyone on their evening commute causing more gridlock because they are nodding off in traffic. I get not letting people text. I even get not letting people drink alcohol. But not drinking coffee is just asking for more problems than it’ll solve.
