VH1 Classic Is Relaunching As MTV Classic On August 1st And I Am Fucking Stoked About It

It’s about goddamn time, MTV. To be honest, I didn’t even know that there was a VH1 Classic. What do they even show on there? The best episodes of Behind The Music and Pop Up Video? Okay, those were actually two pretty damn good shows. But when I think of VH1, I think of a bunch of Kenny G music and shit like that. Relaunching that channel to MTV Classic (to quote a classic MTV show) CHANGES EVERYTHING! Growing up the only two channels I had programmed in my brain for the remote were ESPN and MTV. Now the only time I venture near MTV is to watch The Challenge or either of the award shows that make me feel old as fuck. Especially during the commercials. But going back in time to when MTV was the baddest dude on the block is wild. I am hoping and assuming that this is a full blown relaunch and not just a one day thing.

A few other thoughts.

– The first order of business should be bringing Rock ‘N Jock back. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200. I think I’ve mentioned this in the past, but the first time I heard about Wikipedia being an online encyclopedia that had information about everything under the sun, the first search I made was “Rock N Jock”. And there was no entry for it. Just crushing. So I am begging MTV Classic to give me the Homeboys and the Awayboys as well as the Violators and the Bricklayers ASAP.

– I bet Beavis And Butthead will seem downright tame compared to the shit that is on TV today. But that show was a legit pioneer for smut heads like myself. The first things that come to mind for what corrupted me as a kid are Beavis and Butthead, South Park, Adam Sandler’s CD “They’re All Gonna Laugh At You”, and all of the Jerky Boys CDs.

– Reliving the videos of Britney, Christina, and Jessica all in their prime is going to be incredible. Followed by a little bit of sadness. Followed by incredible again.

– Speaking of which, there should be a channel just rotating the two classic Britney VMA moments. Especially the first one where every male (and probably a fair share of females) were skyrocketed into puberty.

– Going back in time and watching some of the best Real Worlds will be dope. Like seeing CT as the dude that fought Adam during The Real World instead of the dude that smashed Adam’s face in during The Challenge will be great.

– And speaking of The Challenge, seeing the evolution of the show from being a party with a couple of challenges to a party with a lot of challenges will be fun.

– All these years later, I still have no fucking clue if The Hills was real or fake. And if you tell me it’s a hybrid of real and fake, I still don’t know what that means.

– Can’t wait to do boners to Jenny McCarthy and Carmen Electra during the primes on Singled Out again. And I think Remote Control was a good show, even though I was too young to really know what was going on during it.

– I have never hated a show more that I never saw more than Aeon Flux. All I remember from the commercials was a fly in a chick’s eyeball. No fucking thanks.

– Actually I take that back. I have never hated a show more that I never saw more than Daria. I’m sure fans of the show loved it, but I just hated her face and voice sooooo goddamn much.

– I need the best Spring Break episodes played during real life Spring Break. I need them played at other times of the year too. But definitely during real life Spring Break. Especially some of the Springer Break stuff, when Jerry Springer went to Spring Break and took that shit to another level, like when Randy Moss joined the Pats offense. Namely the video of the chick that lathered herself in honey. Truly a life changing moment for me.

– And seeing an old TRL would be interesting too. The constant battles for votes between boy band fans and Korn fans was fascinating to watch from the sidelines as a fan of neither.

*Semi-related story because it’s about a nostalgic TV show. Last night I dreamt that I was playing Double Dare and woke up during the second round. Top 5 worst wake ups of my life when I realized it was all just a dream.
