The Franchise Tag Period Starts Today And NOPE, The Eagles Aren't Doing Dick With Sam Bradford

PFT – Teams can begin applying the franchise tag today, but it doesn’t appear the Eagles are in any hurry to participate. According to Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Daily News, the Eagles aren’t expected to use either the franchise or transition tag to squat on the rights of quarterback Sam Bradford, setting the stage for him to hit the free agent market. While they have a glaring hole in their depth chart if they don’t retain Bradford, they apparently don’t consider it enough of one to justify paying Bradford around $20 million for one year.

It’s truly amazing just how uninspiring this team has become in such a short time. Yes, everyone (myself especially) was blowing their loads over the prospect of this franchise finally churning out a championship. Everything seemed like it was moving in the right direction…then of course Howie Roseman decided to snake his way into firing player personnel guy Tom Gamble which forced Chip to demand full control of the team because he couldn’t trust Roseman. Annndddd so much for that working out. Thanks, Howie.

Now look at us. Look at this future we have to look forward to. I’m not saying Sam Bradford is the answer, I’m saying we still don’t know and THERE ARE NO BETTER OPTIONS. Why NOT franchise him? It’s not your money and this team has more than enough cap room to afford it. If he isn’t the solution, fine. Part ways. However, if he IS the guy, would you really have an issue paying him megabucks? Absolutely not. It’s extremely difficult to win without a certified dick slinger at QB in this league, unless your defense is one of the best in modern day history. Now we are faced with drafting a QB solely for drafting a QB (probably reaching at #13 when that pick needs to be used to improve the shattered OL, as there is no second round selection).

Oh, and then there’s always bringing on a guy that’ll fit right into Doug Pederson’s lauded offensive system that has been ranked in the bottom third of the league ever since he’s been OC in KC. Just stare in awe at these proven stats from career backup Chase Daniel.

I smell a future! The worst part about this is how a lot of fans, media, and organization are fine with settling for a Chase Daniel. I’m not. I want the best possible players to give this team the best possible shot to win. And it’s a damn shame the Eagles are throwing away the most talented guy they have available to them THIS YEAR for the most important position in sports. More importantly, his teammates believe in the man calling him a proven leader and accurate as fuck. That’s when he had no running game, his receivers leading the league in drops, and a swiss cheese of an offensive line. Imagine if he had some help? But, nope, let’s release his rights when there’s absolutely zero reason to let him go this season.
