No Better Way To Start The Week Than Watching 28,815 Teddy Bears Rain From The Heavens In The Calgary Hitmen's Annual Teddy Bear Toss

My favorite tradition of the year, the Teddy Bear Toss. Where after the first goal they score of the game, the fans rain down teddy bears like a big teddy bear plague onto the ice, which then get donated to local charities for the Christmas season. (It’s ok to say Christmas there because there’s no Joos in Canada.) The Calgary Hitmen do it big every year, and last night the set the new record for most teddy bears tossed with 28,815. I’ve spent about an hour just watching all sorts of angles and videos of it. It’s just so many teddy bears.

And now we pause play for 8 hours as 28,000+ stuffed animals get loaded into vans and trucks.

Down in America, here, in this country, the Caps AHL affiliate Hersey Bears did it big too yesterday with nearly 20,000.

I’ve always wondered every year what would happen if the team simply doesn’t score. I’ve sneaky hoped that they Hitmen get shut out, as cruel as that is, just so at the end of the game they have to be like, “ok, sighhhh, throw your teddy bear or whatever”. Again, kinda mean, but still want to see it.
