Am I The Only One Who Understands Uniform Rules?

So these have been the two big stories of the last two days. Everyone up in arms that NFL players can’t treat their uniforms like the “Create A Jersey” section of a video game. I mean, I hate the NFL and Roger Goodell as much as the next guy but this is pretty cut and dry. If you work in an office you can’t wear sweatpants to work, if you go to boarding school you can’t wear football jerseys, and if you play in the NFL you have to wear your team’s colors.

I get that it’s sad to lose a parent to cancer, I’m sure it’s absolutely devastating and I hope it’s a pain I never know. But, if I were to lose my dad to melanoma I don’t think Dave would be willing to let me change Barstool’s colors to black. If you let one guy do it, where does it end? Can someone who lost their mom to bladder cancer wear multicolored marigold, blue and purple cleats? If a player’s brother is a soldier can he wear yellow gloves and towels with his blue and black uniform? What about a son with Autism, can you opt to wear the red, blue, yellow, teal puzzle pieces on your helmet? What ailments make the cut and what doesn’t?

Again, I can’t stress how I understand how losing a parent is a touchy subject, but this seems like a crazy one to jump all over the NFL about. Practically every job in America has uniform and dress code rules. Sometimes they suck and you wish you could wear something else. If that’s the case then be a blogger instead. But if you want to be mad at the NFL then be mad about CTE or domestic violence or, most importantly, their mistreatment of Tom Brady. Don’t be mad they make their players wear their uniforms.
