Birth Control Pills For Men Might Become A Thing
Daily Beast- If you’re a man frightened by the thought of getting a shot in your vas deferens to prevent unintended pregnancies, good news: Researchers in Japan may have just identified the key to creating a birth control pill designed especially for you. A team of scientists based out of Osaka University have published new research in Science suggesting that immunosuppressant drugs used for organ transplant patients could be used to develop a reversible oral contraceptive: a version of “the pill” for men. Male birth control is a sticky business. Female birth control prevents ovulation through hormone regulation but male birth control must directly alter, immobilize, or block sperm cells on a physical level. So far, some of the most promising developments in male birth control have been polymers like Vasalgel that work by preventing sperm from leaving the body in the first place. The semi-permeable gel is injected directly into the vas deferens but it can be flushed out with a second injection. This contraceptive has been successfully tested in male primates and the manufacturer is hoping to complete human trials by the end of 2015.
So, this new birth control pill for men is in the works in Japan I guess. So far it’s worked on rats and monkeys and they’re going to start doing trials on humans. I’m going to be honest I don’t really understand why or how the pill works and how it stops you from getting pregnant. I just take it and just assume it’s going to work?
That being said, I take it but I hate it and I don’t think men will be any better at taking it and that’s why this pill won’t work. It is SO hard to remember to take it. I know guys always say “how can it be that hard to remember to take something you take every day?” I don’t know why it’s so hard but it just is. I even have an alarm set on my phone and I still forget constantly. Usually it’s because I won’t have it on me so I shut off my alarm and I’m too lazy to get up and go get it. Basically, men are more irresponsible than girls. Half the time they don’t even have condoms and how often do you have to buy those? Monthly? So there’s no way they could have the responsibility of taking birth control everyday so nice try Japan but this won’t work.
